Valentine’s Day is coming! Most people are keen to make some salted dough decorations for this big day. It is very understandable as the salted dough is very easy to make. It is also one of the enjoyable activities for both kids and adults. If you plan on making some valentine’s decoration out of the salted dough, here are some ideas for you.
Supplies:
- Salted dough recipe
- Parchment paper
- Butter knife
- Paintbrushes
- Craft paints
- Rolling pin
- Cookie sheet
- Cutting board
- Thin drawing paper
Step 1. The first thing to do is to make the salted dough. You can easily find the recipe for the salted dough online. Make the salted dough as instructed in the recipe. After the dough is formed, start kneading the dough using your hands. Then lay the dough on the cutting board and knead it until smooth.
After the dough is smooth enough, use the rolling pin to roll out the dough into some circle shape. In this project, as the decorations are more than one, you can divide the salted dough into some parts by using the butter knife. Leave the dough for awhile and start making the decoration design on the parchment paper. As seen from the pictures, the decorations are varied.
Step 1a. Take the drawing paper and draw two fish facing each other. Cut the paper and place it on the small dough.
Step 1b. Draw two cats on the drawing paper, cut it and place the drawing on the small dough.
Step 1c. Draw Love letter on the drawing paper, cut it and also place it onto the small salted dough.
Step 1d. Draw a funny rabbit on the drawing paper, cut the drawing and then place it on the salted dough.
Step 1e. Draw one funny cat on the drawing paper and cut it. Then, place the drawing on the salted dough.
Step 1f. Make one more drawing of two cats on the drawing paper and then cut the drawing. Place it on the salted dough.
You can make other drawings as you like. The drawings shown in this project are only for your reference. As long as you know how to make it, the drawings don’t matter.
Step 2. After you place all the drawings onto the salted dough, it is now time to shape the drawing on the dough. You can use the butter knife to help you form the decoration. You can also use other additional tools to shape the dough to make it more alive and attractive. After all salted dough is nicely formed; place all the dough on the cookie sheet. You can cover the cookie sheet with the parchment paper. Then, bake the dough for about 20 minutes with 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 3. After 20 minutes, take out the cookie sheet from the oven and place it on the table. Leave it for awhile to cool down. While waiting for the dough to cool down, you can start preparing the paintbrushes and the craft paints.
Ask your kids to paint the dough as the way they want. They can color or paint the fish, cat, or love letter according to their imagination. When the decorations are all painted, you can let the salted dough decoration to dry completely for 2 to 3 days.
After 2 to 3 days, you can take the salted dough decorations and place them on the table or on any other places to embrace the Valentine’s Day. Your kids must be proud of it as they are involved in making these beautiful decorations. Happy Valentine’s Day!
