Learning how to paint a glass can be tricky, especially for the novices. Painting glass means a painter needs to deal with distortions, reflections, making color reflect onto surfaces, adjusting the directions of the light and many more, all of which can be beyond challenging to learn. Fear not! Soon Y. Warren is here to get you covered. She demonstrated how to pain a realistic glass as summed up in the following steps:
Materials:
- Messing tape
- Watercolor paper with a sketch on it
- Sturdy board
- Clean water
- Big head brush
- Paint (red, yellow, Cerulean Blue, Green)
Steps:
- Prepare Your Surface
Soak your paper and stretch it onto a board using messing tape. Cut the tape at the same length and then roll it to make a double tape. This will make the tape hard and strong. After that, stick the tape all the way around the paper. Then, flip over the paper, and attach the paper to the board.

- The First Wash
Wash the whole paper by spraying water to the surface of the paper. After that, you need to eliminate the white space of your paper.
First, brush the paper using big head brush and water. Make sure every corner is wet.

Second, spill the yellow paint on the sketch of the glass and spray it with water and the big brush all over the paper.

Third, spill the red paint on the paper, on the top of the yellow one.

- Develop the Underpainting
Using the leftover primary colors, the red, the green, and the cerulean blue, paint the edges of the glass bowl. Time to time, try to blend the colors to get rid of hard edge. Just touch the edge of this and that area using the edge of your brush to blend out the edges. You don’t need to take color out from paper, just kind of leaving it and just blending the edge off from the application. Make sure you don’t apply strong colors, go with the light strokes instead. There is no such what color should and shouldn’t be used. What matters is make them light as depicted in the picture.

- Add Darks
Now, it’s time for adding dark colors for the shadow of the fruits. You can go with purplish tone. Again, blend the edgy part with another color, and this time is with different little redder tone. Repeat the process to the other fruits shadowing.

- Final Details
The final details will be about creating straight line to your glass bowl. Anchor your hands onto the paper and cover the parts of your hand palm touch the paper with a tissue to draw the lines assertively without having your hands shaking. In this step, decorate your painting as you want.
